CBS mapping of goods flows in freight modeling

Using a new methodology, CBS (Statistics Netherlands) is able to combine data on international trade and transport in order to answer questions about the production, consumption, origin, destination, transport modes and supply chains of goods.

Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, we are integrating this methodology and data into a strategic goods transport model. The model uses it to make more accurate forecasts of supply chains, improving decision making on investments in infrastructure.

For integration into the freight model, the methodology must be accurate, consistent, reproducible and documented. This is achieved through review, testing and refactoring of the Python scripts.
